Rinjani Porter

Rinjani Porter

Who Are the Porters?

Porters are local Sasak people (the indigenous ethnic group of Lombok) who carry trekking gear, camping equipment, food, and sometimes personal belongings of trekkers during the Rinjani hike. They are incredibly strong and experienced in navigating the mountain terrain.

What They Carry:

Tents and sleeping bags

Cooking gear and food supplies

Water

Sometimes even portable toilets

Trekker’s extra bags (if arranged)

How They Work:

Porters usually carry loads of 25–30 kg using a bamboo stick with baskets on both ends.

They walk in sandals or even barefoot and often move faster than the trekkers.

They also set up camp, cook meals, and help clean up.

Why They're Important:

They make the trek manageable, especially for those not used to carrying heavy loads at altitude.

They help maintain the eco-tourism system by handling logistics and reducing environmental impact.

Hiring porters supports the local economy and gives back to the Rinjani community
